Some really interesting research featured in today’s update. A link has been found between pre-earthquake activity and ionospheric density, which is a layer of electrons in the upper atmosphere. This layer increases in density a few days and sometimes weeks before a seismic event. Hopefully findings such as these will enhance earthquake/seismic activity prediction/detection systems.
Also featured in this update is a paper highlighting the relationship between polar motion and variations of the geomagnetic field. Ben shows graphs demonstrating the motion of the poles over the last century and also how the excursion speed has accelerated. The former suggests another acceleration is likely to occur in the next few years, as stated by Ben.
