Today’s SpaceWeatherNews update from Ben Davidson, a geophysicist and astrophysicist, features an important explanation of what is called the South Atlantic Anomaly.

As Ben explains, the south geomagnetic pole is moving away from Antarctica and heading into the Indian Ocean. The reason for this is as a result of this excursion, the strength of the geomagnetic field is being taken with the pole, therefore leaving an area of weakness in the geomagnetic field, which is called the South Atlantic Anomaly.

This Anomaly demonstrates the reality of both geomagnetic field decline and the excursion of the poles, which will likely lead to a pole shift in the next couple of decades.

We must raise awareness and prepare in a mature and sensitive manner which addresses risk and need.
